What are cart refresh settings?

Cart refresh settings are what allow for changes in the way a cart updates after an item is added or removed. In this case, we are referencing the refresh settings on your in-store cart, cart page or checkout experience as it pertains to the EcoCart widget and product. 

What cart refresh options are available?


There are 3 options available for cart refresh settings: 


No Refresh: This setting will keep the customers cart as is regardless of if the EcoCart donation has been selected. When a customer clicks the widget’s toggle button to donate, they will not see the EcoCart product added to their cart until they go to another page or refresh the page on their own. 


Soft Refresh: This setting allows for a soft refresh when an item has been added or removed from the cart (including the EcoCart donation). For example, if a customer checks the EcoCart donation toggle the cart should update to show that the EcoCart product has been added. 


However, if a customer makes adjustments to other items in their cart - the donation amount may not update right away or until the customer goes to a different page or refreshes from their end. 


Full Page Refresh: This setting will refresh the full page that the customer is viewing after an item has been added or removed from the cart (including the EcoCart donation). For example, if a side cart is in use and the customer checks the EcoCart donation toggle the full site page will refresh and the side cart may close out. When the customer opens the cart back up they will see the EcoCart product has been added to their cart. 


This setting is useful for merchants that utilize the widget on in-store cart pages (i.e. side carts and pop ups) because if a regular item is added or removed from the cart - the EcoCart widget will update upon refresh to reflect the correct donation amount.
