How does billing work at EcoCart?

So you have decided to make your business on Shopify carbon neutral. EcoCart is the right place to get started in just a few clicks!

-What does EcoCart bill me for?

EcoCart bills you for retiring the offset on your behalf for the carbon neutral or climate positive orders. This is based on the calculated emissions of the items in the customer’s cart at checkout and the cost to offset said emissions.

To learn more about how does EcoCart determine the offset cost of each order please refer to this link:

To put it simply, this means that EcoCart directs the donation collected by you to the projects of your choice to ensure that the net result of the environmental impact of your order is carbon neutral.

-How billing works for each of the payment modes.

EcoCart handles the billing for each of the payment modes as follows.

1. Customer Paying Mode:

In this payment option, your customer will be given the option to make their order carbon-neutral at no cost to you. This makes EcoCart free to use for your store while staying sustainable.

In this option, if the customer chooses to make their order carbon neutral, EcoCart adds a new product equal to the offset cost of the emissions of the order. The amount is collected by the store as a collective body and EcoCart charges you for the exact donations collected at the end of your billing cycle.

2. Merchant Paying Mode:

In this payment option, the merchant will be making the orders carbon neutral on behalf of their customers. Selecting this option makes all of your orders carbon neutral.

In this option, the customers will see the widget indicating that the orders are being made carbon neutral by the merchant.

Important Note: Please note that this mode makes all of the orders carbon neutral with the merchant covering the offset cost. This means no charge is sent over to the customers.

3. Customer Matching Hybrid Model:

In this payment mode, the customers are given an opportunity to double the impact on their orders.

In Customer Matching Hybrid Mode:

a. All of the orders are already made carbon neutral by the merchant.
b. The customers can opt to match the merchant’s donation and make their order climate-positive.

That means that in total the amount of CO2 offset is double the emissions of the order which makes this deal one of the most sustainable options out there.

The widget will look something like this:

In this option the donations are directed as follows:

Important Note: Please note that 100 percent of the orders are being made carbon neutral by the merchant in this option. The customers matching the donation will double the impact for that order only.

4. Merchant Matching Hybrid Model:

In this payment mode, the customers are given an opportunity to double the impact on their orders.

In Merchant Matching Hybrid Mode:

a. The customers can choose to make their orders carbon-neutral.

  1. If the customers opt-in their donations are matched by the merchant doubling the impact of the order.

That means that for every carbon neutral donation by the customer, the merchants also match the donation and double the impact.

The widget will look something like this:

In this option the donations are directed as follows:

Important: Please note that in this option merchant only matches the offset donations of the orders where the customer has opted in to make them carbon-neutral.
